The CA-49th was redistricted in 2020 taking effect in 2023 and remains a solidly coastal and diverse district situated within Orange and San Diego counties. To the north the communities of San Clemente, Dana Point, Laguna Niguel, San Juan Capistrano and Ladera Ranch are located along south Orange County, including a sliver of south Laguna Beach, and south of that is Marine Corps base Camp Pendleton. In San Diego County known as “north County” the communities of Oceanside, Vista, Carlsbad, Encinitas, Leucadia, Cardiff by the Sea, Solana Beach and Del Mar complete the vast area known as CA-49.
